–  ABOUT WHITNEY SHEVLIN –

As a licensed clinical social worker, I have 18 years of experience providing individual and group therapy across a myriad of settings.  I also have years of experience working on myself in therapy, because I want to be the healthiest version of me for my clients, my family, my friends, and my bad-ass self!

PRIVATE CONCIERGE THERAPIST

I am a Private Concierge Therapist, which means I carry a small caseload, so that I can give 100% to my clients and provide them with personalized and customized services.  By maintaining a smaller caseload, I avoid burnout and am able to practice what I preach about healthy boundaries and self-care.

As your therapist, I am committed to over-delivering and ensuring that you have my undivided attention, focus, and energy when we are together.  I will remember your birthday, the names of your kids, partners, and exes, and the concerns that are keeping you awake at night.

CUSTOMIZED RESOURCES

When you work with me, you will receive lots of customized resources in your email inbox including YouTube videos, book and podcast recommendations, articles to read, songs to feel inspired by, and journal prompts to stimulate introspection and expression.

These will be carefully selected for you based on what we are working on together.

MY OFFICE

My office is cozy and intimate, and my hope is that you will feel a sense of calm and peace when entering.

It is surrounded by beautiful mountains, hiking trails, and walking paths, so if you want to take therapy outside the four walls of an office and into the great outdoors, let’s put on our walking shoes, and move forward together.

My first priority as a therapist has always been to create a safe space for clients to feel comfortable taking off their masks and revealing their authentic selves.

My office is a judgment-free zone.

In this space of safety, acceptance, and non-judgment, healing and growth can easily occur.

OUR PARTNERSHIP

As your therapist, I don’t see myself as “the expert” descending down from the mountain of certainty to fix you and tell you what to do.  I see my role as that of a professionally skilled, non-biased partner that is also human and climbing her own mountain, but the difference is, my training, skills, and experience offer me a unique vantage point from which to objectively see and understand you and your journey.

Because I am a trained professional, not a friend or family member, I don’t have personal stakes in your game, which can feel liberating. There will be no baggage between us, no hidden agenda.

I am not going to fall apart or become anxious when you tell me how you messed up this past weekend.

EXPECTATIONS

whitney shevlin therapist watercolor peach background

I admire all of my clients, because I recognize their bravery and courage.  Anyone can sweep problems and challenges under the rug and deny they are struggling.  It takes strength to pull back the rug, acknowledge the struggle, and commit to working through it and growing beyond it. As Glennon Doyle says, “We can do hard things,” even when we are struggling.

You can expect to gain insight and self-awareness during our work together, and this will feel illuminating and relieving. But, you will also learn how to channel that self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-understanding toward committed action.  Sometimes, feelings follow action, not the other way around.

Going to therapy should not feel shameful. Choosing therapy should feel like a proactive step toward healing, wholeness, and self-improvement…something to be proud of.
